Residential or Commercial Wells, Private Water Supplies
APPLICATIONS
Oxidation of Iron, Hydrogen Sulfide and Manganese
Oxidation is necessary to remove unpleasant properties, iron, hydrogen sulfide and manganese, commonly found in ground water in residential and commercial water wells. Iron stains laundry and plumbing fixtures. It can cause a metallic taste in the water and leave deposits that can clog pipes and reduce flow rates. The presence of hydrogen sulfide emits a “rotten egg” odor and has corrosive properties. The presence of manganese in the water will cause black staining of laundry and pipes.
Stenner peristaltic metering pumps accurately inject solutions such as sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide and potassium permanganate to oxidize undesired chemical elements so unwanted properties may be removed from the water by filtration after adequate contact time in a retention tank.
pH Adjustment
The pH levels in the system’s water source can impact pipe conditions and impair efficient oxidation. Low pH water can be corrosive to pipes, valves and fittings. High pH water can cause scale to form to clog the pipes.
Stenner’s robust flow activated pump, the S10P, offers a 10 PPG mode to work with a 10 PPG dry contact water meter and process flows of 0.1 to 14 GPM. With the 10 PPG mode, the S10P delivers steady solution distribution and the mixing tank* can be eliminated for pH correction.
In some systems, oxidizers are injected to break down organic compounds, flocculants are used to form large particles for simple filtration, and acids or alkalines can be introduced for pH adjustment. Stenner pumps offer activation options for injecting sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, and acidic products for pH adjustment.
* Mixing and retention tanks are required for all bacterial and oxidation applications.
Disinfection
Disinfection is necessary around the world to provide biologically safe drinking water to prevent waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid and dysentery.
Sodium hypochlorite is a popular form of chlorine that is effective for disinfection and maintains a residual level throughout a commercial or residential plumbing system. Stenner pumps are not affected by off-gassing solutions and can inject chlorine at full strength or diluted with soft water.
Water Reclamation
Many areas of the country are under governmental regulations to treat their wastewater before discharging it to drain or septic systems. In addition, several areas are under water usage restrictions and often have high water utility costs. Water reclamation is an option to save on both water and sewer costs, plus comply with environmental regulations.
Wastewater from business and industry is cleaned with biological and chemical treatment for non-potable use such as washing or watering. Water reclamation processes utilize Stenner peristaltic pumps to accurately inject polymers, acids, alkalines, metal reduction solutions and more.
